“Vinyasa” in sanskrit literally means 'placing in a special way' denoting a special way of connecting and tansitioning between poses (asanas). At the heart of Vinyasa yoga, lies breath-synchronised movement and connection. As such, Vinyasa yoga is where movement – and a series of poses – is synchronised and connected to the breath, inhaling and exhaling. 

Often this style of yoga is known as flow yoga (or just “flow”), with smooth transitions of poses, running together like a timeless dance. Like a wave rising and falling. 

Vinyasa yoga is a great place to start for beginners who like to flow in their practice but also for practitioners with more experience. At Yoga Shala we offer open level classes every Monday (Malvina) and Wednesday (Natassa) who work with different levels and anatomies and offer many modifications to make sure we all move forward when the time is right as light Warriors.

What to know about your Yoga Class at Yoga Shala, Nicosia

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing
  • Practice yoga on a relatively empty stomach
  • Private one-on-one yoga sessions available on request
  • Mats & props provided free-of-charge; or bring your own
